Bandai Mercedes-Benz 190SL, Japan, 1950s, lithographed tin and friction drive.
An earlier prototype model by Bandai, it curiously features an inverted Mercedes star on the grille, perhaps in hopes of copyright infringement avoidance – who are we kidding, that’s literally how Japanese toymakers earned a living in the postwar era. A crude but evocative design that roughly captures the look and feel of Mercedes’ ground-breaking SL platform.
