Description

Seal’s Motel, Seattle, Washington, late 1970s, scanned from an original Kodachrome transparency.

Like most postwar motels, Seattle’s Aurora Avenue North had its share of amazing neon signs beckoning weary travelers. By the late 1970s, when this image was captured, the Seal’s Motel was still going strong, though likely more as a residential hotel than a one-night-stand destination for travelers. Sadly, the Seal’s hit hard times, as these links will attest. Here’s a vintage postcard of the location.

The Puetz Golf location across the street survives to this day.
