The imposing Mercedes-style grille on this convertible, manufactured in the late 1940s by the Distler Toy Company in Germany’s US Zone, may have been inspired by that of the Mercedes-Benz 540K Roadster. Distler’s tinplate two-seater, license B-2727, was available in several color combinations, including teal blue with a bright red interior, and featured a lot of chrome trim in addition to the grille. The solid rubber whitewalls were mounted on handsome red wheels, with the front controlled by a working steering wheel. The clockwork motor was wound by a key inserted into the spare tire cover, and a dash-mounted gearshift operated three forward gears as well as neutral and reverse. Image is 1034px wide.
