Digital image download of a 1890s-era Cottolene Tip Tray. Cottolene was an early seed-oil alternative to beef tallow (lard), and was widely marketed to American consumers from the 1880s until the 1950s. The imagery depicts black Americans picking cotton, the waste seeds from which were used to manufacture Cottolene.
